Ruber and Sasha laFleur are married high school darlings, living in California. Sasha works as a real estate agent, while Ruber hopes to establish himself as an architect by designing their dream home. The couple invest everything they have in Ruber's project, purchasing beachfront property in Santa Monica and beginning construction, but the recession leaves Sasha without houses to sell and Ruber without a job.
